HD Tamany Hall 203U

BD: 1/21/08     BW: 72 lbs.     Color: Silver

Tamany Hall is the highest growth EPD heifer born in Idaho in 2008. She was bred by H Diamond Cattle Co. a leading MG breeder actively using AI and embryo transplants for breed improvement.  I did not have many heifers born in 2008, so I bought the 3 best I could find.  Tamany was one of them. She is very long and thick with a moderate frame. She is sired by Lindsay Elect, a bull known for his depth, thickness, and  structural correctness.   Lindsay Elect’s sire is Willalooka Java, giving me another avenue to tap the performance capabilities of the Willalooka Herd. Tamany's mother, HD Silver Sphinx 164S, is out of Willalooka Pharoah (below average EPDs for birth weight and a trait leader in 200, 400, 600 day growth, carcass weight, and retail beef yeild) and HD Magic Power, a Willalooka Power daughter.   164S is Currently the second Highest growth EPD’d cow in The United States.

JB Umbra

BD: 2/9/08       BW: 93 lbs.       adj. 205 day Wt: 670 lbs.        Wt. on 3/2/09: 780 lbs.
Color: Black     Grading Score: 6

Umbra is a heifer bred by JB Ranch in Oregon. She was the Highest growth EPD heifer born in Oregon in 2008.  JB specializes in producing some of the highest quality cattle in the country.  Bonnie doesn’t have a large ranch, so she doesn’t waste her time with anything less than exceptional.  Umbra is out of 09 Opal, the two time winner of the Northwest Regional Grand Champion Produce of Dam and the mother of the 2005 National Reserve Grand Champion Yearling Heifer, 2007 Northwest Regional Grand Champion Female, and the 2007 Northwest Regional Reserve Grand Champion Bull.  Opal is a Willooka Power bred female giving her a strong performance link to complement her show strengths.  Umbra's sire is JB Roar, the 2005 National Reserve Grand Champion Bull and a son of the very well liked Willalooka Pharaoh (a trait leader in 200, 400, and 600 day weights, carcass weight, and retail beef yeild). Umbra is a long bodied, smooth muscled female with a good temperament. She comes from a long list of top producing cows on both sides of her pedigree and I expect her to also be a great producer. Umbra also has the highest Yearling Weight EPD out of all 2008 born females in the AMGA.

Eagle Rock UR Marvelous 157U
BD: 3/16/08      BW:76 lbs.     Adj 205 day wt:     Color: Silver

Marvelous is a wonderful heifer raised by Eagle Rock Murray Greys. I first saw her September of 2008 and wanted her then.  After seven months of pestering LaRalph, her mother finally had a full sister and he agreed to let me buy her.  Her mother, Eagle rock Marvel is a full embryo sister to HD’s fine bull HD Maximus ET 11M.  Maximus sires calves noted for structural perfection.  Marvel is a diplomat bred cow out of “Lady” a foundation dam for both Lindale Murray Greys and H Diamond.  Marvelous’s sire is the excellent Pharaoh son, Eagle Rock Royal Prospect. “Roy” is super long and literally draped with muscle.  Being out of a cross of Willalooka Pharaoh, and a Willalooka Power bred dam, it's no wonder that Roy became noted for his fine females.  He brings an exquisite blend of explosive growth and exceptional maternal characteristics to his progeny.  Thus far Marvelous is a wonderful mix of growth and correctness.

HD Willpower 193T
BD: 3/17/2007      BW: 79 lbs.       ADJ 205 wt:      Color: Silver

Willpower is the first calf out of HD Rocky Mountain Lady 148R, which I believe will go down (with her full embryo sister HD Ritzy Lady 149R) as one of the best Murray Grey females of the next decade.  The day I saw Willpower I wasn’t even looking for heifers, I was merely giving my opinion on Justin’s heifer crop before he listed them.  I didn’t really even have the cash to buy her, but Willpower is that once every five years heifer that you mortgage future children for.  I knew her dam, and had tried unsuccessfully to buy her previously.  148R is an embryo daughter of Willalooka Power, perhaps the finest MG bull ever to be brought over here from Australia.  Her Dam, “Lady” is a foundation Dam for both Lindale Murray Greys and H Diamond Cattle Co, and has calved many exceptional offspring.  Willpower’s sire is Eagle Rock Royal Prospect, a noted female producer out of Willalooka Pharaoh and a Willalooka Power daughter.  Though this makes Willpower linebred to Power, thus far the only effect I’ve observed is explosive curve bending growth.  She is a moderate framed cow (frame score 6), but she got there exceptionally fast -  particularly for a first calf heifer.  She was the Highest growth EPD 2007 heifer born in Idaho, and her performance has validated her numbers.

 BULY Wishuponastar 18U
BD: 12/3/08     BW: 81 lbs.   Color: Silver

Buly Wischuponastar 18U  is a very growthy 2nd calf heifer out of a Keighlians Wendsleydale granddaughter that we bought from Pattirex Ranch.  Wendsleydale is a multiple champion Murray grey sire who has stood Grand Champion at some of the most prestigious shows in Australia, most recently at the advanced age of 9.  Wishuponastar's sire is a cross of ERM Justifiable Arrogance, the breed leader in calving ease and low birthweight, and a daughter of Willalooka Leopold.  Leopold is the sire of Willalooka pharaoh, the #1 performance bull in the breed.  Wischuponastar’s unadjusted 205 day weaning weight (no creep) was an amazing 710lbs.  That’s a good weight for a bull, let alone a 2nd calf heifer.   She has a frost bitten tail which she often sticks straight up in the air which with her playful personality makes her look like she is a pointing dog.

Buly Annoying the Wife 6S

BD 5/1/06        BW 68 lbs.    Color: Dark

Buly Annoying The Wife is a low birth weight chocolate cow  who should have a bright future in the breed.   Her dam, Lindale Kay 386K, is a granddaughter of Toonga Casper who was a noted carcass bull in his day.  386K DNA tested to have excellent carcass qualities including a huge ribeye and excellent tenderness.  "Annie's" sire, ERM Justifiable Arrogance 15P, is still the breed leader in calving ease and low birth weight. 15P Ultrasounded to have an excellent ribeye size and incredible carcass qualities as well.  This is not a huge surprise as he is a Kringle son and Willalooka Power grandson, both of whom are noted carcass bulls.  “Annie” was the 2007 Grand Champion Intermediate Yearling Heifer at the Eastern Idaho State fair.  “Annie” is very long with a muscular rear end.   She has had two calves by different bulls this far.  Both have been very low Birth weight black bulls.  Since neither bull was black himself, its thought that Annie will be a dominant black producing female.

Pattirex Pattikins 2P

BD: 9/26/04

BW: 71 lbs.

Pattikins is a muscular, square cow we bought from Pattirex Ranch back in 2006. Her sire is out of a Trojan cow crossed with Keighlian’s Wendsleydale who was a multiple Grand Champion back in Australia even as an aged bull.  Pattikin’s dam is bred back to Rockliffe Patron, a bull of considerable notoriety in his own right.  Pattikins has almost been handled too much as she is kind of a troublemaker.  She has a good disposition, but can be hard headed, perhaps from being shown so extensively as a calf.  She was the 2005 Grand Champion Senior Heifer Calf at the Eastern Idaho state fair, and the 2006 Reserve Champion Senior Yearling Heifer (also at the EISF).  She has had very muscular well built calves for us thus far, and tends to calve to the color of the Bull.

HD New Moon 116N

BD: 3/1/2003

BW: 72lbs

Moon is my wife’s pet and is an incredible mother.  She has a wonderful disposition and is a very efficient cow who has low birth weight silver calves.  She is out of The Glen Showboat, perhaps the best maternal bull in the Murray grey bred, who also had a noted show career.   He is the sire of Marire Gambler (one of the best sires in New Zealand) and is found multiple times in the pedigrees of such modern bulls as Bundaleer Xroads. Her dam is of Canadian descent and was an exceptionally long bodied cow who was still having productive calves at the age of 15.

Buly Tempest Moon 13T

BD: 7/4/07       BW: 82 lbs      Color: Silver

Tempest was the 2008 Grand Champion Intermediate Yearling Heifer at the Eastern Idaho State fair.  She is a very structurally correct, low birthweight female with a little more frame and muscling than her mother, HD New Moon 116N. Tempest's sire, ERM Justifiable Arrogance 15P, is still the breed leader in calving ease and low birth weight. 15P Ultrasounded to have an excellent ribeye size and incredible carcass qualities as well.   Tempest's dam is a daughter of The Glen Showboat, perhaps the best maternal bull in the Murray grey bred, who also had a noted show career.   He is the sire of Marire Gambler (one of the best sires in New Zealand) and is found multiple times in the pedigrees of such modern bulls as Bundaleer Xroads.  Tempest behaves very well under halter, but is somewhat difficult to catch, and does not seem to have inherited much of her mothers lapdog disposition.

Buly Terragon Dream 12T

BD: 7/1/07

BW: 73 lbs

Terragon was the 2008 Reserve Champion Intermediate Yearling Heifer at the Eastern Idaho State fair. She is line bred to Willalooka Power with her mother having Power as both of her grandfathers and her father ERM Justifiable arrogance also having Power as a grandsire. Her sire, “Justin” is still the breed leader in calving ease and low birth weight. 15P Ultrasounded to have an excellent ribeye size and incredible carcass qualities as well.  Terragon's mother, Eagle Rock Nikki, was a very muscular boxy cow who just did not like people.  That quality earned her a quick trip to a commercial herd in Texas despite her performance and pedigree.  Terragon’s full brother is serving as a purebred herd sire in Utah and has sired a large number of blacks, not surprising given the extensive Power lineage.
